Many content management vendors are running scared as Microsoft
poises to enter the content management market with its portal product SharePoint
Portal Server. Billed as an "integrated content management and workflow technology
solution," SharePoint Portal Server manages information at the document level and
provides users notification of change to documents, robust search facilities, the
ability to categorize information, and the ability to connect to various data
sources and deliver information to the Web. Many in the content management
industry are creating strategic alliances to ensure their survival after the
software giant enters the market. Smart move.
