Can topic-based DITA XML provide the basis for a unifying content model for the creation and delivery of learning? The OASIS DITA Technical Committee has formed a sub-committee on "learning and training content" to explore just this question, and to seek the answer by developing a DITA specialization for learning.
The subcommittee seeks to build on the DITA principles and best practices to develop a "design for structured, intent-based authoring of learning content with good learning architecture." Top-level targets include developing general support for processing DITA content for delivery as instructor-led training, web delivery for distance learning, and computer-based training. Specific targets include support for delivery of SCORM and QTI standards-based learning.
The subcommittee has just started work and seeks additional members especially those with backgrounds in developing content for training and standards-based e-learning. Participation is open to all members of OASIS.
More information and details on how you can join are available at OASIS - http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-learningspec. You can contact subcommittee chair John Hunt of IBM at
