As you probably are aware, JoAnn Hackos, CIDM Director with the assistance of the Advisory Council, selects a theme and theme book for CIDM’s Best Practices Conference each September. A few of you may remember that the theme book for the 2003 Conference was The Heart of Change by John Kotter and Dan Cohen. The Advisory Council has chosen another book by John Kotter, A Sense of Urgency, for this year’s Best Practices Conference in Vancouver, Washington (Not Canada!), September 14 through 16.

Jennifer realized early on that simply converting content to XML was not enough to drive the kind of content efficiencies the company really needed. Like other companies producing a large pool of information, Keller knew that much of their content might be duplicative. Successful content reuse required that the duplicates needed to be first identified, and removed. Considering the scale of the effort, simple cut and paste efforts would not be viable and an automated approach was required.
