The DITA Technical Committee (TC) is looking for new voting members. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved with the DITA TC community.

In order to become a DITA TC voting member, you need to meet the following qualifications:

  • Have an OASIS membership. You can acquire an OASIS membership if you work for a company that already is an OASIS member, if you can coax your company to join OASIS, or if you can join OASIS as an individual. (A list of companies that are OASIS members is found here.)
  • Commit to regularly attend DITA TC meetings, which are held every Tuesday at 11 AM-noon ET, and participate in the work of the TC. This requires a commitment of at least 4-6 hours per month.

Here is a list of the kinds of work that voting members of the TC participate in:

  • Developing and reviewing proposals for what goes into new releases of the DITA standard
  • Developing and refining content for the DITA specification
  • Reviewing the DITA specification as new releases of the DITA standard are developed
  • Responding to feedback from the DITA community that is sent through the dita-comment list or as a GitHub issue
  • Building and updating stylesheets for DITA TC publications: specification and committee notes
  • Authoring committee notes, which are non-specification documents on such topics as “Migrating to DITA 2.0,” “DITA 2.0 Troubleshooting,” and “Accessibility and DITA”
  • Discussing the current state of the DITA “universe” and community
  • Developing and participating in DITA TC panels, presentations, and webinars

There are significant benefits to being a voting member of the DITA TC:

  • Being part of a community of wonderful people, some of whom have worked together for years: Robert Anderson, Carsten Brennecke, Bill Burns, Stan Doherty, Kris Eberlein, Nancy Harrison, Scott Hudson, Gershon Joseph, Eliot Kimber, Zoe Lawson, Keith Schengili-Roberts, Eric Sirois, Dawn Stevens, and Frank Wegmann.
  • Having the opportunity to learn from well-known DITA experts
  • Influencing the future direction of the DITA standard!

You will be especially valuable to the DITA TC if you have the following qualifications:

  • Robust knowledge of DITA
  • Understand the difference between “DITA as a standard” and “DITA as implemented at company X”
  • Employment at a vendor who develops DITA solutions
  • (Serious brownie points here) Experience implementing a DITA processor
